Pics (mine - yours - it's all good)
My favorite shot.  I think I say that ten times in the below captions, but I really like this one with my puppies.

Kat at Duran Duran.  Again, I never know quite what my hair decides to do once that flash goes off.  Any hoo...here's my happy self as I wait to relive childhood memories.

I love this picture.  I simply love it.  Thanksgiving weekend '07.

The Alt Family minus me.

The Alt Family minus my mom.

This is one of my favorite pics of me.  I think it's because I'm not posing when I pose my face gets all scrunched up.  I don't know.

My canine kids Barkley and Joe-Joe.  Barkley is a Pitbull-Dachshund mix and of course there's my very vocal Beagle, Joe-Joe.

This is one of my all time favorite photos.

Barkley in his cart.  One of his discs ruptured and severed his spinal cord.
It's a disease called IVDD and is very common in Dachshund.  If you know a Dachshund owner tell them to read up on it.  He's paralyzed from just before his hind legs back, but he's happy!

Joe-Joe sporting his doggie wrap.  He started marking everywhere about 8 months ago.  These things ROCK.  No more puddles around my furniture legs when I'm not looking.

Since he's paralyzed - Barkley can't lift his leg to do his business so every now and again he may have a little accident, but not when wearing his sporty doggie wrap.  If you have a problem with dogs marking, these are worth every penny.

My sister, mom and I at the beach.

A peek into my world...

I was born to Jo Ann and Charles Alt in August 2, 1973.  I couldn't ask for better parents or a better family.  Especially my sister, who I probably owe a million apologies to for years of torment.  One of the worse things I can remember doing was coloring all over her doll collection in permanent ink.  I also cut all the hair off our Barbies, but that's a story for a different time.

I was a chubby kid and that kind of sucked, but you move on.  I can remember running around the house singing AC/DC's "Dirty Deeds."  Although, I had no idea what they're singing about.  Also on my list of favorites...the movie "Grease," rollerskating, swimming and Duran Duran.  They're my guilty pleasure.

Somewhere around 8th grade everything went downhill.  My mother blames hair metal - more specifically - Poison.  I can still remember the day "Talk Dirty to Me" debuted on MTV.  I saw every band that came through my hometown, lived every moment to the fullest and even stumbled upon a little place called Hammerjacks in Baltimore, MD.

After I graduated from high school, I began to calm down a little. My mother still thanks God today :)!  I enrolled college and it is there my career in radio began.  I was studying to become a journalist, but decided to take a radio course for fun.  I graduated from Towson University and landed my first job with WRDX-FM in 1998.

When I'm not at work it's pretty much all about friends, family and my two pooches...Barkley and Joe-Joe.  My sister (now one of my closest friends) now has three children of her own and they are my pride and.  Both of my parents are still living and when we're all together- we're quite the motley crue.

On this date in 1872, the first mail order catalogs were sent out...
I don't know about you, but now I can't figure out how to get companies to stop sending me catalogs.  I must get 50 or 60 a month which is nothing compared to must people.  It kind of sucks, too because its such a waste of paper.  I know its a big part of how these companies get return business, but mostly I just look at them then toss them into a recycle bag.  I don't recycle everything, but I started looking at the exorbant number of catalogs I was tossing out each week and I decided I will start small and start recycling just the junk mail and catalogs.

Awwwwww....
A baby whale is apparently a little confused and that's an understatement.  The calf thinks a yacht is its mother.  In fact it really, really thinks the yacht is its mother.  The yacht had to be towed out to sea when the whale latched on it to feed (suckle if you will) and wouldn't let go.  Eventually it did, but here's the problem...the whale that isn't getting any nutrients and is becoming fatiqued.  To make matters worse because he isn't weaned yet...rescuers can't feed it.  The only thing rescuers can do is set him on a course that will hopefully lead him to find another pod of whales or even perhaps his mother.

America's grand Olympian...
Over the weekend those interested in Michael Phelps quest watched as he became a legend.  The first person to obtain 8 gold medals during one Olympic games.  Phelps beat the record of 7 held up until Saturday by fellow swimmer Mark Spitz.  Just how popular is Phelps?  Well, Orioles fans watched the broadcast from Camden Yards on Friday Night (how many times does that happen) and Ravens fans stuck around after Saturday's game at MIT Bank Stadiun to watch as Phelps received his eight gold made and inked his place in history.

PS...ignore the headline of the article below.  It starts off snarky, but ends well.  I just really posted the link because it had all the photos of Phelps from each medal ceremony together in one presentation.  I thought that was kind of cool.

Recently hatched sea turtles suddenly in mood for Italian...
Imagine you're sitting in a restaurant in Italy enjoying a spectacular dinner when in march 60 baby Sea Turtles.  At first patrons we're puzzled over the incident and then authorities were called to aid with rescuers efforts.  Antonio Colucci who works with the WWF suspects the turtles followed the bright lights of the restaurant instead of heading into the sea.  Photo is courtesy of the AFP.

Misc. fluff news blurbs...
Barack Obama saw The Dark Knight while on vacation in Hawaii last week.

Marie Claire magazine has named Milwaukee as the Sexiest U.S. City.

The Chicago Sun Times reports Britney Spears wants to hire Michael Jackson as a consultant for her next CD.

Wait...WHAT?
What is she thinking?  I don't think Michael is quite in the place he used to be.  His odd behave over the past several years doesn't quite scream "hire me to help you ink out a multi-platinum album."  Sure perhaps back in his Thriller days, but unfortunately, I just don't think he's the same Michael.  I could be wrong...that is just my opinion...but I think Britney needs to go look elsewhere.

I can't even come up with a headline for this one...
The Beijing Olympics weren't the only Olympics taking place this past weekend. The Tranny Olympics took place in London where transvestites competed in several track and field events. Drag queens wore high heels for the 100 meter Stilleto sprint and the limbo contest. "Jon Beijing", who was dressed in a red and gold kimono, took home Gold in the sprint. He says former flashy Olympian Michael Johnson is his hero. "He had the lovely gold shoes and there's nothing a tranny loves more than a pair of spangly gold shoes."

WHAT...?
Millions of kids will go back to school today. The Harrold, Texas Independent School District has approved a plan that will allow teachers to carry guns. In order to carry a firearm, a teacher must have a Texas license to carry a concealed handgun; must be authorized to carry by the district; must receive training in crisis management and hostile situations. Superintendent David Thweatt says the guns are necessary to deter violence and because the schools are a 30-minute drive from the sheriff's office. The Harrold, Texas Independent School District is 150 miles northwest of Fort Worth on the eastern end of Wilbarger County, near the Oklahoma border.

I'd freak...
San Marcos, Texas Police Officer Paul Stephens is under fire for the way he handled a recent traffic stop. Michael Gonzalez was going 100 miles an hour down an interstate highway when Stephens pulled him over. He ran to his squad car and explained that he was speeding because his dog was dying. Stephens responded by saying, "You're driving down the highway at 100 per hour. It's a dog, it's OK. You can get another one. Relax." The dog died as the couple waited for Stephens to issue a citation. The San Marco police have called the incident a "rookie mistake" and did not find Stephens guilty of any misconduct.

NOTE:  My guess is the guy doesn't own a pet.  WOW...that really sucks, but it is possible the dog wouldn't have survived even if the couple had reached the vet in time.  The guy's response was just so heartless, but again...it's something really only a pet lover can understand.  Some pet owners think of their animals as others feel about their children.  It's a bond non-pet owners really can't be expected to understand.

MAN...I feel bad for the couple and perhaps now this guy has learned a very important lesson.  Yes, the cost was high.

What a freaking good for nothing DA...

If you need to know what DA stands for...e-mail me.  Tracy Martin is in trouble for trying to sell her two week old grandson for $2,000 and a car. She was visiting her daughter in Enid, Mississippi when she went to a bait shop, told the owner she was down on her luck and offered to make a deal. Brandy Moore says her mother is mentally unstable and was watching her son when she took off with him. Martin was arrested on a warrant in Alabama and has not been charged with anything in relation to the sale of the child. The investigation is on-going.

The new Harry Potter film will not debut in November...
Warner Brothers has actually moved the release date to July 17, 2009.  Their reasoning...to take advantage of an open weekend during the much busier Summer season.  Apparently, they have had success in the past with releasing during the summer.  That kind of sucks.  I was looking forward to seeing it.  Yes, I enjoy the Harry Potter films although "Half-Blood Prince" is slated to be much darker as Harry grows older and faces more adult conflicts and challenges.

Just what you want your kid to see...
Mickey Mouse, Tinkerbelle and the rest of the gang in handcuffs.  Yes folks, yesterday a group of protestors all dressed up as various Disney characters were cuffed and arrested as they protested labor disputes with the company who owns the happy place on Earth.  Tourists, kids and other folks watched as this group formed a circle in a busy intersections and caused numerous traffic issues.

Okay, I'm beginning to see why they got hauled away, but still what a site for children.  "Mommy, why is Minnie Mouse in handcuffs?"  "Mommy, why is that police officer putting Peter Pan into his police car?"
The protestors are currently renegotiating their contracts with three of Disney's hotels.  They accuse the company of reducing health benefits and attempting to create a new level of part-time employment with a minimum level of benefits.  The protests were taken into custody, cited and released.

Now those are some happy athletes...
The German Men's Beach Volleyball team defeated the Netherlands yesterday and words can not describe this shot taken not long after the win.
Trust me...I've said this numerous times on air...I don't care what you do in your personal life as long as it doesn't injure people or animals, harm me or my family or steal from me.

With that said...I found this photo of the German's Men's Beach Volleyball team a bit interesting.  Plus, they are European.  Us Americans are a little more reserved when it comes to showing affection with people of the same sex.  It's still quite a photo.  I showed the photo to Brad Majors our afternoon guy and I believe his response was, "Now, that's some man love."  That pretty much sums it up.  The photo by the way is courtesy of the Associated Press.

Speaking of man love...
Donald Trump shows his softer side.  He will buy Ed McMahon's home and let the 85-old former sidekick for Johnny Carson lease it.  You may think well, Trump has enough money to buy it outright and give it to Mr. McMahon, but I think that would be a little much considering Trump doesn't even know McMahon.  He watched him and Carson both on the "Tonight Show" will attending business school.  Details regarding the deal have not been released.  McMahon's home was put on the market for $4.6 million dollars after his $4.8 million dollar loan went into default.

Now that's a photo.  It was taken recently by the Hubble Telescope near the Tarantula Nebula.  Simply amazing.  Sean is the Space freak in our household, but even I have to admit this is an incredible recording.  This would be a photo in case you were wondering of celestial birth.  The photo was taken by the Associate Press.

Olympic Update...
Phelps is a God.  Nastia Lufin and Shawn Johnson rocked last night during the Women's All Around Gymnastics competition.  And well, apparently the men's beach volleyball team won, too (but we already addressed that.)  The excitement continues from Beijing through Friday, August 22nd.  Below is the schedule for this weekend.

Saturday night...

...on NBC (Michael Phelps swims in his eighth event of the Games, the 4x100m medley relay live, on swimming's last night and Tyson Gay runs for gold in the men's 100m. Also live: swimming (men's 1500m free; women's 4x100m medley relay, 50m free); women's marathon.)

Sunday night... ...
on NBC (U.S. gymnast Alicia Sacramone is among the contenders in individual event finals (women's floor exercise, vault; men's floor, pommel horse). Also: live women's triathlon; and finals in track and field (women's 100m) and women's diving (springboard).)

One minute all is going well and the next...
You're giving birth on your front lawn.  And you know all the neighbors were out watching.  We're all had something happen on the front lawn and the neighbors come out like roachs when the lights are off.
Jessica Higgins recently gave birth on the front lawn of her Fullerton, California home. The 36-year-old was driving home from the mall on Tuesday when Mary Claire decided she was ready for the world. Jessica called 911 while her husband, Jeff, cut the baby's umbilical cord under a ficus tree. Mary Claire weighed 5 pounds, 11 ounces

Uhhh...I'm sorry officer...I just don't give a poo about the law...

On July 1st, a new law went into effect in California that made it illegal for drivers to drive while using a hand held cell phone. The Rocklin, California police have compiled a list of the best excuses they've heard from ticketed offenders.  Apparently, no one that was pulled over had the balls to tell police the real truth....they just didn't care enough about the law to comply.

  • "I haven't figured out how to use my Bluetooth yet!"
  • "I was trying to find out if the volume was up on my phone because I couldn't hear anything
  • out of my Bluetooth."
  • "The fine is just a business expense. I'll write it off."
  • "I just plain forgot about the law."
  • "I can't stand that stupid ear piece."
  • "I have the Bluetooth but don't know how to connect it to the phone."
  • "I had it on speaker." (While still holding it in their hand.)
  • "My Bluetooth doesn't work. The battery is dead."
  • "I was waiting to get a ticket before I spend money on a Bluetooth."
  • "My wife said I sounded like I was in a toilet so I switched back to cell."
  • "I heard it was a second-offense thing and you cannot stop me just for talking."
  • "Is it not more of a hazard to fumble around trying to get the ear thing in?"
  • "I wasn't using my phone. I was just resting my head against it!"

A pair of Fowlerville, Michigan parents may be charged with child abuse for taping a pacifier in their baby's mouth. During a routine traffic stop, a Michigan State Trooper noticed electrical tape was holding the binky in the tot's mouth. Police also say the child was not belted into a safety seat.

Brett Favre says he is having a hard time adjusting to the music that's blared at the Jets training camp. He says normally, teams pump in crowd noise, but the Jets allow players to pick the music. Brett's had to listen to Lil Wayne all week long.

WOW!!!  Now that's generous...
Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law are donating their paychecks from The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus to Heath Ledger's daughter, Matilda. All three took over for the late actor following his untimely death. Director Terry Gilliam says, "The three actors were totally heroic coming in. This doesn't happen very often . . . where there's a tragedy like this, and very famous, very successful actors suddenly say, 'Okay, we'll do whatever it takes to help.' They came; they did the work; they allowed the movie to be finished; they didn't take money–the money goes to Heath's daughter. That's extraordinary! And wonderful."

What a loser...
The guy who posted this on Craigslist...not Dr. Phil.  Although, Dr. Phil has made some really bad decisions lately, too.  The last I can remember involving one of the girls that was involved in the beating up of that sole teenager.  They video taped it and were all arrested. Anyway, apparently Dr. Phil get involved with the "rights" of one of the girls.  No her civil righs, but the "rights" to interviews, the story, etc.

Any how...Dr Phil's show may be the new hotspot for singles. One married man posted a message on Craigslist that said many audience members attend just so they can hook up. "Before you go into the studio everyone hangs out in a staging area for about an hour, you have plenty of time to start something. I would recommend having something fun and very 'L.A.' to do after the show to offer the girls to go to. Then get into drinks. Most of the women are foreigners and/or a little 'white trashy' so they are probably very easy. All of them are for sure looking for something to do after the show."

Things are really heating up over there in Beijing…

I finally got to watch the women’s team gymnastics competition, which was pretty brutal at the end.  Imagine being Alicia Scaramone and not only falling once, but twice.  Now that’s a bad day.

Today a Swedish wrestler literally took off his bronze medal during the medal ceremony…tossed it on the floor and walked out of the arena.  Apparently,
Ara Abrahamian was extremely angry over a bad referee call.

Take it all with a grain of salt...Abrahamian in ’04 went through a similar tantrum when he received the silver medal and said he was quitting wrestling.

I watched the men’s all-around gymnastics competition last night as well…the most horrible moment is when one of the Japanese guys - Hiroyuki Tomita lost his grip on the rings and took a hellacious fall.  He got up and continued to compete and you could tell he was hurting so kudos to   he ended up coming in forth place.

CLICK HERE to watch the moment that will haunt Alicia Scaramone for years to come.

NOTE:  I couldn’t do even a fraction of what she can do on a bad day so I’m not going to pick on the gal.

Actually, I did execute a cartwheel and round-off today here at the station down one of the hallways.  Two words...that hurt.  I learned two very important lessons.  ONE...we don't have much padding underneath our carpets here at the station.  TWO...warming up is a must even if you're doing one simple cartwheel.  THREE...I'm a tad out of shape.  Litterally, it felt like I pulled both of my arms out of socket for a moment.

But back to Ms. Scaramone...Ifeel bad because I’m sure she will be beating herself up for years to come.  The stakes are high…the prestige is incredible, but when you mess up…its got to be simply crushing.  Poor gal.
And who can forget all the others who have trained so hard for so long.  It truly is a magical moment to watch as their dreams come true and so difficult to watch when things don’t go as planned.

It’s astounding….

Well, it could be if done correctly.   It’s been announced the cult classic “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” will be remade.   Hmmm…I have mixed feelings about this.  They could either do it justice or completely kill the film for many.
TRHPS first came out in the 70’s and to some’s surprise became a cult classic.  It’s still shown in theaters today with many still permitting local actors to come in and perform the infamous “Floor Show” during the movie.

BUT…the thing with Rocky Horror is you either love it or hate it based on content or for some bias.

I find it to be one of Tim Curry’s best roles.  If you can parade around in women’s lingerie and make it believable…you’re a darn good actor in my book.  OR you have some very interesting hobbies, which I don’t think is the case with Curry.  Again…you either love it or hate it. With that said I think there are also people who love it a little too much to the point it gets kind of scary, but that is true about many things.

Regardless, it will be interesting to see what producers come up with.  According to reports, the original script will be used in the remake, but the film will definitely receive a makeover.  This could include new music… that would kind of blow it for me.  To give you an idea of where it could go…MTV is handling the production in the States.

Did you see the story about Julie Childs…?

I was up pretty late last night when it came across and man…it’s pretty interesting.  The women who pretty much putting cooking shows on the map…Julie Child’s was basically a spy for the US during WW II.  Thousands of others were also identified when documents were released yesterday identifying members of the Office of Strategic Service or OSS.  It was if you will a very early version of the CIA.  Other OSS members include Miles Copeland father to Stewart Copeland the drummer for the Police.  Ernest Hemmingway’s son was another member.  President Roosevelt’s (Teddy’s) son was also listed as OSS.  It’s just an extremely interesting read especially considering all this information has been confidential for over sixty some years.
